Meet Blaze!
Blaze is a big, solid built paint gelding who came
to live at the Ranch last summer. I had been
sharing with Ally, a good friend who runs a local
boarding barn, that we were in need of a larger
horse who could easily pack around some of
our adult riders and volunteers. Most of our
herd was at, or barely above the pony mark.
She agreed that a larger mount would make a
good addition to the program and promised to
keep her eyes open for us.
Just a couple of days later, she called me,
obviously excited. "I think I have the perfect
solution for you!" I listened with interest as she
explained her idea. Apparently, one of the

families that boarded at her farm had come up against some financial difficulties and were considering the possibility of having to sell their horse. The
family was heartbroken, particularly the 12 year old daughter, Amanda. I knew that Ally had this horse in training for the last year or so, and she
thought he was exactly what we were looking for. She suggested that we might offer to board him for free in exchange for the freedom to use him in
our mentoring program.
Ally put us in touch with Blaze's owners, and we all agreed that it sounded like the perfect solution for everyone involved. Since Blaze has come to
stay at Refuge, both he and his family have become a wonderful addition to the Ranch. We were delighted to extend our family this way and have so
enjoyed getting to know them all. They have pitched in any way they can, and given of themselves so generously. Welcome home. Were so glad
you're here!
